Miley Cyrus In Talks For ‘Dark’ New Role

Miley Cyrus is reportedly in talks to shed her clean-cut image for good with a role in dark new movie Wake.

The 17-year-old actress made her name in Disney’s Hannah Montana, and appeared in her first lead role away from the teen franchise in this year’s The Last Song. She recently revealed she wants to focus on making movies over the next few years, and now she’s said to be preparing to tackle a more grown-up part in paranormal thriller Wake.

The upcoming movie, based on the best-selling novel by Lisa McMann, tells the story of a teenage girl who is sucked into other people’s dreams and ends up in a living nightmare.

Wake is the first of three books and movie bosses have reportedly bought the rights to the whole trilogy with plans to turn the stories into a franchise – and Cyrus is the favorite for the lead role, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Sleepy Lovato Fine After First Crash

Sleep-deprived teen star Demi Lovato has assured fans she’s fine following a car crash in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old Disney star, who is dating pop hunk Joe Jonas, was involved in a collision early on Tuesday and took to her Twitter.com account to reveal all about the crash before the tabloids got hold of the story.

Lovato wrote, ”

Today hasn’t started off so great. I was so sleepy this morning, I got in my first little accident in my car.

“To everyone who asked, yes – I’m totally fine! Thank you! (it) was a huge bummer.”

Downey Jr. To Play Wizard Of Oz?

Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly set to team up with director Sam Mendes to bring the Wizard Of Oz back to life.

The original 1939 movie, starring Judy Garland, became a cinematic classic, while another film based on L. Frank Baum’s books, Return To Oz, was released by Disney in 1985.

Now movie-makers are preparing to return to the Emerald City on the big screen in a new picture about the wonderful wizard, titled Oz The Great and Powerful.

The film will be a prequel to the Garland movie, based on Baum’s work, and will tell the story of a young circus magician who ends up ruler of the magical country after crash-landing there in a hot air balloon.

Mendes, whose work on the next Bond film was put on hold indefinitely, is now in talks to direct the picture, while Downey Jr. has been lined up to play the wizard, according to Production Weekly.

The picture is one of a number of different Oz adaptations in the works, including a big screen version of hit stage musical Wicked, and Oz, which sees Dorothy’s granddaughter sent to the Emerald City to “fight evil”, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Lovato Urges Fans To Help The Needy

Demi Lovato has urged her fans to reach out to those less fortunate – after a chance meeting with a homeless woman left her feeling heartbroken.

The Disney star has taken to her Twitter.com page to tell followers about her experience over the weekend and plead with them to be more caring.

In a series of posts, she writes,

“It seems like society has become so greedy these days, and because of that it’s so easy for all of us to forget what we have.

“I just met a homeless woman sleeping on the sidewalk tonight. My heart is still breaking because everyone deserves a safe place to sleep at night. Especially women. It’s so dangerous for her. Please don’t ignore the poor. And take time out of your day to recognise the blessings you have.”

Wonder if Demi delved into her stash of Disney cash and gave the woman anything?

Disney Star Henrie Cited Over Shopping Center Fight

Wizards Of Waverly Place star David Henrie was detained by police in Los Angeles on Thursday night after allegedly attempting to start a fight at a shopping center.

The 20 year old, who stars in the Disney show alongside Selena Gomez, was enjoying a night out at Universal CityWalk with his 16-year-old brother Lorenzo, when the pair became embroiled in a dispute with an unnamed person.

Cops intervened and the actor and his sibling were both taken into custody and cited for a misdemeanor offence of challenging a person to a fight.

The pair was handed over to their father on Friday morning.

Selena Gomez To Launch Kmart Clothing Line

Selena Gomez will launch a line of clothing at Kmart stores this summer.

Gomez, 17, stars in Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

The “Dream Out Loud” collection, aimed at teenagers, will go in sale in late July, just in time for the back-to-school shopping season. It will include sportswear, purses, belts and accessories. In October it will be expanded to include shoes, the discount retailer said Tuesday.

I’ve said it before, this kid deserves everything she gets. She’s a hard worker and a class act always!

Tisdale Lands High School Musical Spin-off

Ashley Tisdale is set to reprise her High School Musical character – for a movie spin-off.

The 24 year old has played snooty Sharpay Evans in the film franchise’s first three outings, which made stars of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.

The fourth installment is set to feature an all-new cast – but Tisdale will play the teenager again in a movie for the Disney Channel, her representative says.

Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventures will begin shooting this summer and premiere in 2011.

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher is following in the footsteps of Gwyneth Paltrow and launching her own lifestyle website, providing women with “empowering” hints and tips.

Paltrow has been sharing her healthy eating and living advice with fans via Goop.com and now Hatcher is set to hand out similar information on GetHatched.com.

Hatcher promises the website will “provide, with humor, insight and vulnerability, solutions to the needs and obligations of today’s modern women.”

GetHatched.com, a collaboration with Disney, will go live in May, according to trade paper Daily Variety.

Disney star Demi Lovato has landed a role in hit . show Grey’s Anatomy.

The Camp Rock star is shooting her scenes as a patient who is being treated for possible schizophrenia this week – and she’s loving her time on set.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes,

“I’m so thrilled to announce that this week I’m shooting Grey’s Anatomy!!!!!!!! Ahhh!!!! By the way… Mr. Patrick Dempsey himself wants me to give a shoutout to you guys! Hahahaha so awesome.”

Lovato’s episode will air in America in May.
