Lady Gaga ‘Hospitalized Six Times Last Year’

Lady Gaga was hospitalized six times last year due to problems with her diet, it’s been reported.

The singer’s ex-tour manager David Ciemny claims in a new book that the singer frequently went on crash diets.

When I say she was sick, I mean physically and mentally,”

he says in the book, entitled Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga.

Written by Maureen Callahan, the unofficial biography claims to be “the first in-depth biography of the extraordinary cultural phenomenon that is Lady Gaga”.

It features interviews with friends, employees, rivals, and music industry veterans.

An exert from the book, which has been serialized in today’s Sun newspaper, also claims that there was “pressure” on the star to lose weight.

It also apparently lifts the lid on Lady Gaga’s mental state, including the suggestion that she hired someone to accompany her at all times on tour.

Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga is released later this month.

Lady Gaga is currently on the latest North American leg of her Monster Ball world tour. She is due to release her new album in the new year.

Lady Gaga Dresses as (Nearly Naked) Statue of Liberty

Lady Gaga becomes Lady Liberty!

For the “New York Issue” of fashion mag V, the pop superstar puts her edgy spin on one of America’s — and NYC’s — most iconic symbols.

With designer Marc Jacobs close by, the 24-year-old singer has long, blonde hair sculpted into the Statue of Liberty’s famous crown; wearing a bra, panties, draped fabric falling off her waist, she holds a burning paper torch.

Gaga was born and raised in the Big Apple.

Explains V editor Stephen Gan of the pic, snapped by photographer Mario Testino:

“Just as the Statue of Liberty was France’s gift to America, Gaga is, to us, New York’s greatest gift to pop culture and fashion…she has become a bonafide genius and we can safely declare her our muse.”

Looks like Avril Lavigne to me.

Lady Gaga’s Healthy Diet: Tofu, Turkey and Hummus

With the demands of performing on her Monster Ball tour, recording a new album and being one of her generation’s top pop stars Lady Gaga has a lot on her plate – but she stays healthy by watching what she puts on her plate.

Since fainting during a concert in New Zealand earlier this year, Gaga has become a stickler for maintaining a healthy routine, according to her choreographer LaurieAnn Gibson.

“It’s all about salsa with grain chips, tofu, turkey slices, hummus and coconut water,”

says the choreographer, who is nominated for two MTV VMAs for Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” videos.

But a girl can’t put on a show on hummus alone.

“We’ll have a toast or two with a little white wine!” says Gibson, who will premiere a Ryan Seacrest-produced reality show on E! in November, of Gaga’s pre-show ritual.

So just who is the real Gaga? Gibson, who choreographed the singer’s videos for “Poker Face,” “Love Game,” “Paparazzi,” “Bad Romance,” “Telephone” and “Alejandro,” says Gaga is a soulful theater buff who has “become a lot more comfortable with herself.”

Gibson describes the pop star as “fearless,” and says her new music, which Gaga has been recording while on tour, reflects that fearlessness.

“She’s going to take a bigger bite out of things,” says Gibson. “You’re going to see more of who she really is.”

It’s Lady Winehouse

It looks like Lady Gaga has become as badly beehived as wild Amy Winehouse as she steps out with a big do.

Gaga, 24, was one hot honey dressed in shades and a studded black dress as she stopped off at Vancouver airport, Canada, on the way to a gig.

Lady Gaga Thanks Fans For Twitter Crown

Lady Gaga’s millions of fans have another title to call their Mother Monster: Queen of Twitter.

After steadily gaining on Britney Spears, who until recently was the most-followed user on the social-networking site, Gaga surpassed her fellow pop supernova over the weekend by landing over 5.7 million followers. At press time, Gaga’s Twitter army clocked in at 5,726,168 deep, besting Brit, who had 5,696,275 followers. Just days ago, the chart-toppers were neck-and-neck, with Spears boasting 5,646,028 Twitter peeps to Gaga’s 5,635,460.

When Gaga learned she had dethroned Spears, she took to the Internet to thank the people who made it all possible: her fans. In a video posted online, Gaga doles out heaps of “monster” love to her followers for solidifying her digital dominance.

Sporting a lace headpiece adorned with a sequined Twitter logo and an ornamental Gaga-fied version of the site’s familiar bird symbol, the singer addressed her nearly 6 million followers.

“Hello world, this is Lady Gaga, queen of Twitter,” said the singer, with a flourish of an illuminated scepter and a sprinkle of glitter; a move that was part-Elizabethan royalty and part-Glinda the Good Witch. “I wanted to thank all my beautiful little monsters for following me. Thank you for beginning my reign as Twitter queen.”

The singer then wished her Twitter-dom only the most enjoyable of experiences when logging onto the micro-blogging site.

“May you always have soft cuticles while tweeting,” Gaga said wistfully. “May you never have carpal tunnel.”

The “Alejandro” singer, who filmed the clip backstage at her Monster Ball Tour stop in Tacoma, Washington, promised to keep the Twitter nonsense to a minimum.

“I vow never to partake in celebrity online shenanigans,” Gaga said. “And I vow to always tweet and tweet again.”

Before signing off, Gaga left her legions of viral fans with a few words of encouragement.

“Just remember that I love you,” Gaga said. “And love you yourself. Because little monsters, you were born that way, baby. I love you Twitter. See you at the Monster Ball.”

Lady Gaga To Steal Britney Spears’ Twitter Crown

In a symbolic exchanging of the pop princess crown, Lady Gaga will soon become the world’s top Twitter user by overtaking current champ Britney Spears’ number of followers.

According to social media statistics service Famecount.com, Gaga recorded 5,635,460 followers earlier today, while Spears had 5,646,028.

With current growth rates, the “Bad Romance” singer should pass Spears’ count on Thursday or Friday at the latest.

Spears’ brief run at the top of Twitter began less than three months ago, when she overtook actor Ashton Kutcher for the top spot.

Famecount.com confirmed that Gaga’s Twitter followers, 16 million Facebook friends and YouTube popularity currently make her the most popular entity online. However, the singer’s Twitter crown is far from secure.

With Justin Bieber adding 800,000 new Twitter followers a month to his existing 4.5 million, the teen star could pass Gaga within six months.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Monster Ball’ to Gross Nearly $200 Million Worldwide

Lady Gaga quickly became one of the most recognizable artists on the planet in 2009, but by the end of that year, relatively few people had seen her perform live. That changed this summer, as Gaga embarked on her first arena tour.

The pop phenomenon hit North American shores on June 28 in Montreal and visited cities such as Boston, New York, Toronto, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Jose, Vancouver, Edmonton and Philadelphia during the early part of the trek. Gaga will continue to play the nation’s largest and most prestigious venues until Sept. 19, when the show heads back to Europe.

But America has not seen the last of the Monster Ball. The demand for tickets was so high during the jaunt’s first leg that in May, Live Nation announced that Gaga will return to the U.S. next February for another run of U.S. dates. The 2011 North American Monster Ball Tour will kick off Feb. 19 in Atlantic City, with 10 arena dates confirmed through April 18. Additional shows are still expected to be announced, and Semi Precious Weapons, the New York rock band that has opened the tour’s 2010 dates, will continue on the road with Gaga until the Monster Ball winds down.

Live Nation Entertainment’s global touring division, headed by chairman Arthur Fogel, holds the reins as promoter/producer of the Monster Ball tour. The pairing makes sense, given the team’s expertise in producing international runs by U2 and Madonna, and considering Lady Gaga’s love of spectacular staging and production.

Was Gaga’s lack of mega-tour experience going into the Monster Ball a challenge? ”

It’s an opportunity,” explained Fogel to Billboard in May. “As an artist with that kind of talent and vision emerges, it creates a lot of excitement, and ticket sales worldwide demonstrate that people are really excited to see the show.

“Over the course of the next many months we’re trying to play to as many people in as many places as possible,” he added. “It’s an across the board home run.”

By the time she wraps Monster Ball, Gaga will have grossed close to $200 million worldwide, according to Billboard estimates, and the tour will certainly stand out as one of the brightest feathers in her well-decorated hat. But there have already been plenty of highlights — both heartwarming and controversial — along the way.

Gaga is GOLD!

For one special evening, Chelsea Handler is bringing her late-night raunch to primetime: Handler will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards. The comedienne announced the gig on her E! talk show, “Chelsea Lately,” on Wednesday (August 18).

“Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of ‘Chelsea Lately.’ And that’s why I will be hosting [the show],”

Handler quipped, before urging her staff to vie for the extra tickets MTV gave her. “Let the ass-kissing begin,” the funnywoman smiled.

Handler will work the mic at this year’s awards show, which airs live from Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. This is the first time the L.A.-based star will host the event where celebs like Lady Gaga, Eminem, Drake, Usher and Katy Perry are up for Moonmen.

Among the performers set to hit the stage are Kanye West, B.o.B, Florence and the Machine and Handler’s sometime suitor, Justin Bieber.

Lady Gaga Goes Gonzo At Elvis Vigil

Things got ugly Sunday night when Lady Gaga and her entourage bumped into the Viva Las Vegas Elvis Presley Club as they were holding a candlelight vigil to mark the 33rd anniversary of The King’s death.

The Gaga crew had dined at Benihana and were heading past the Elvis statue in the Hilton parking lot, Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke reports. “He’s been dead over 30 years,” snapped one of Gaga’s group. “Get over it!” Angry words started flying. “We’re going to stand up for our man,” fan club president Sue Laurenz said.

Come on, can’t be dissing on Elvis!
