Katy Perry Says ‘Pearl’ Is Her Album’s Crowning Jewel

Pop star says ballad is the perfect way to end Teenage Dream.

Katy Perry rose to the top of the charts with songs about kissing girls, Vegas vacations gone awry and how awesome “California Gurls” are. So, when fans pop Teenage Dream into their boom boxes, they might be surprised to hear Perry show her vulnerable side on the song “Pearl.” The ballad is about an outgoing, strong young woman who lets a guy “keep her in the dark.” The catch, at the end, is that Perry is actually singing about herself.

The singer admitted that by the time she started working on “Pearl,” her album was nearly complete. But, it was missing something. So she headed back into the studio to work on the track. And she thinks it finishes her record in just the right way.

“I did one more song with [producer] Greg Wells, and it was called ‘Pearl,’ ”

she explained to MTV News about the track.

“And it was kind of just like, ‘All right, now I have this crown, and I have all these jewels, and I can put these little jewels into the crown, and I feel like it’s a complete presentation, something I’m really proud of.’ “

So, after recording Teenage Dream rather quickly, “Pearl” became its crowning jewel.

”

It only took six months [to make Teenage Dream], which is like lightning speed,” she said. “But I think that I wouldn’t be starting again with this new record if I didn’t feel like this was my best foot forward.

Perry said the project shows her evolving. “It’s an evolvement, but it’s not a dis-attachment. … My life is a little bit different, and I’m taking a verbal snapshot right now.”

Chelsea Handler Reveals She’s Hosting 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

For one special evening, Chelsea Handler is bringing her late-night raunch to primetime: Handler will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards. The comedienne announced the gig on her E! talk show, “Chelsea Lately,” on Wednesday (August 18).

“Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of ‘Chelsea Lately.’ And that’s why I will be hosting [the show],”

Handler quipped, before urging her staff to vie for the extra tickets MTV gave her. “Let the ass-kissing begin,” the funnywoman smiled.

Handler will work the mic at this year’s awards show, which airs live from Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. This is the first time the L.A.-based star will host the event where celebs like Lady Gaga, Eminem, Drake, Usher and Katy Perry are up for Moonmen.

Among the performers set to hit the stage are Kanye West, B.o.B, Florence and the Machine and Handler’s sometime suitor, Justin Bieber.

Pattinson: ‘Kissing Kristen Was Easier For Eclipse’

Robert Pattinson has further fueled speculation he and Twilight girlfriend Kristen Stewart are dating for real by confessing it’s becoming easier to kiss the actress.

The couple has refused to entertain rumors of a real-life romance away from the cameras, but Pattinson and Stewart constantly poke fun at the dating reports – most recently sharing an awkward lip-lock at the MTV Movie Awards.

And now Pattinson admits kissing Stewart isn’t as strange as it was in the first two Twilight films.

He says,

“Kissing felt a little bit more natural in Eclipse, even if there was plenty of it.

“In New Moon and Twilight, it was always like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna kill you if I kiss you’ or something. It was always kind of odd. But, in this one, they (characters Bella and Edward) both understand their situation a lot more, which makes it easier. It’s the first time Kristen and I have been able to just act like a normal couple.”

Lindsay Lohan Hides Alcohol-Monitoring Bracelet at MTV Movie Awards

Lindsay Lohan is used to wearing revealing dresses on the red carpet.

But at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, Calif., she wore Pamella Roland’s gunmetal-silver-pearl ombre beaded halter jumpsuit.

The reason: To hide her SCRAM device.

The actress, 23, who was ordering to wear the alcohol-monitoring bracelet last month following a failed court appearance, has been trying to find different ways to make it chic.

Montag Leaves Pratt

Married reality TV couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have split.

The Hills stars, who found fame after appearing on the hit MTV show in 2006, wed in 2008 in a ceremony in Mexico, before exchanging vows for a second time in 2009 in Pasadena, California, amid claims their Mexican nuptials were not legal.

But Montag and Pratt have now separated and the busty blonde is planning to leave their Pacific Palisades home.

Her representative says,

“Heidi is looking to move out due to all the fake bad press that Spencer controls. She’s tired of it and is looking for a place and wants to focus on her acting career.”

Montag hinted at turmoil in her marriage on Tuesday when she took to her Twitter.com page and wrote,

“I am not Heidi Pratt, I am Heidi Montag.”

Their split comes days after Montag called the cops on her estranged mum, Darlene Egelhoff, after she turned up unannounced looking to speak to the star. No arrests or citations were handed to Egelhoff, who agreed to leave the property.

Who didn’t see this one coming?
