Selena Gomez Steps In For Kidman In Monte Carlo

Filed under: Disney, Leighton Meester, Movie News, Nicole Kidman, Selena Gomez

Teen sensation Selena Gomez has stepped in for Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman in upcoming movie Monte Carlo, after producers decided to give the script a more youthful spin.

The 17-year-old Disney actress has been named the new star of the comedy, based on the book Headhunters by Jules Bass.

Kidman, 42, was set to star in the film in 2005, which originally followed the novel’s plot more closely and sent four New Jersey women to Monaco, where they posed as heiresses.

According to trade paper Daily Variety, producers have updated the script to instead focus on a group of college and high school girls traveling from Paris, France.

Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester is also reportedly in talks to join the cast

Selena Gomez Gets Radio Disney Surprise With # 1 Song

hollywood style awards 121009

Selena Gomez just had one of her best weekends ever.

When Gomez got a call from Radio Disney’s Jake Whetter with news that her latest single, “Falling Down,” hit the number one spot on the radio network’s “Top 30 Countdown with Jake,” she could hardly contain her excitement.

Gomez, the star of Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” was surprised and screamed,

“What? Are you kidding me? OMG, I’m number one! That’s so crazy! Thank You! I’ve never ever had number one and I listen to the countdown.”

After hearing her song actually play on the “Top 30 Countdown,” she added,

“OMG, that’s so crazy! I’m so thankful. Thank you so much for making me number one.”

In addition to her great news, Gomez spent Halloween with tons of kids who were out “Trick-or-Treat(ing) for UNICEF,” the program she is an ambassador for.

Hey it might not be the Billboard #1 but it’s a great accomplishment for a great person. I love it when people who really deserve success succeed. Selena is one of those people.

No Disney Love for Emily Osment

Filed under: Demi Lovato, Emily Osment, Gomez TV, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez

EmilyOsmentApr09

Not sure what Hannah Montana star Emily Osment did to Disney but she sure isn’t getting any love from their record label.

Disney seems to pump out music albums on their tween stars like hamburgers at Wendy’s with such stars as Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Jonas and even Osment’s Hannah co-star Mitchel Musso all putting out their music via Disney owned Hollywood Records or Walt Disney Records.

So how is it that Osment ends up on Wind Up Records, home to bands like Creed and Evanescence? Did she piss off the Disney Gods? Was she not good enough?

While the songs are from the same cookie cutter that Demi, Miley and Selena sing, Osment’s voice is actually quite good and stands up to anything else the Disney labels are putting out.

Shame though, without that Disney machine to promote the record I hardly see it getting very far. The Disney acts benefit from a non stop promotional blitz on Disney Channel and elsewhere. No such outlet for Osment, the channel doesn’t even mention her.

Take a look at her first single, “All The Way Up”.

Disney star Selena Gomez is turning fashion designer to launch an environmentally-friendly clothing line for girls.

The actress has teamed up with Generra designer Tom Melillo and businesswoman Sandra Campos for the new venture, titled Dream Out Loud.

Gomez tells Wwd.com,

“With my line, I really want to give the customer options on how they can put their own looks together.

“I want the pieces that can be easy to dress up or down, and the fabrics being eco-friendly and organic are super important. Also, the tags will all have some of my inspirational quotes on them. I’m just looking to send a good message.”

The boho-chic collection, which will include dresses, tops, jeans, hats and scarves, is due to hit stores in autumn 2010.
